Escorial Monastery and Valley of the Fallen

Escorial Monastery is located one hour from Madrid. Considered for many years the Eight Wonder of the World, El Escorial was conceived by by Felipe II as a monastery, palace and royal pantheon. The Basilica of the Valley of the Fallen, very close to the monastery, is a temple excavated in the interior of the mountain, in which stands the great cross on the valley that allows magnificent views of the mountains.
